Five Ways to Use Generative Artificial Intelligence in Physical Education
Thomas Trendowski
Generative artificial intelligence (GAI) is a
growing topic that has caught the attention of
many eyes lately. Perhaps one of the more famous
platforms people think of is ChatGPT, which came about
in late 2022. However, now there are other platforms, like
DALL-E, Midjourney, Gemini, and Copilot. In essence,
this is technology that can generate data from prompts that
include text, images, or other forms of media. This article
will mainly focus using ChatGPT and DALL-E; however,
many of the other platforms have the same capabilities.
The purpose of this article is to discuss how physical
education (PE) teachers can use these types of technologies
for the following five tasks: curriculum development and
planning, adjusting activities, providing diverse instruction,
conducting assessments, and helping with student motivation
and behavior management. Each of these uses will be
explained using a volleyball bumping lesson, as this example
will be consistently used as the focus throughout this
article.
